Tiny 2's and Teenie 2's with and without caregiver
- Description: In this 30-minute class for boys and girls, children will be introduced to organized dance through music and learn how to follow directions and interact with other children, all while having fun! Note that the Teenie 2's classes will perform in the annual recital. The Tiny 2's are session classes and will not perform in the annual recital.
- Dress Code for Girls: Pink Leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes.
- Dress Code for Boys: T-shirt, sweat pants/shorts, any color, black ballet shoes.
- Notes: Classes with caregiver are 9 week session classes.
Ballet/Tap
3 - 6 Year Olds
- Description: In this forty-five minute class, children will learn the basic introduction skills for both ballet and tap, age appropriate for each age level, while having fun.
- Dress Code: Same dress code as above with the addition of black tap shoes.
Pre-Ballet
5 - 7 Year Olds
- Description: This class continues to introduce the principles of classical ballet and combines important skills that are budding during this age span. Ballet etiquette, basic ballet movements, posture, gross motor skills, and creative ballet games are all incorporated.
- Dress Code: Black leotard, pink tights, ballet skirts welcome.
Ballet/Tap
7 - 10 Year Olds
- Description: Same description as noted above.
- Dress Code: Black leotard, pink tights, black jazz pants, pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes.
Tap
Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced*
- Description: In these classes, students will be introduced to basic/intermediate/advanced tap combinations, both center floor and at the barre, level appropriate. Across the floor work will be done.
- Dress Code: Black leotard, suntan tights, dance shorts, and tap shoes. May need to purchase a specific color for recital dependent upon the costume.
- Notes: *Must have at least two years of tap .
Jazz
Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced
- Description: Jazz is an energetic class that emphasizes the control and motion of the body while focusing on technique, execution, isolations and accents. While Jazz has similar elements to ballet, it focuses more on parallel positions and has more unique and upbeat movement. Jazz promotes personal expression and incorporates lots of fun while learning! The curriculum will develop control, body placement & alignment, musicality, and performance style. This class structure consists of a thorough warm up, stretching, across the floor combos with various jumps, turns and locomotive movement as well as center floor work where choreography will be learned and rehearsed
- Dress Code: Any color leotard, jazz shorts/pants/leggings, jazz oxfords (May need to purchase a specific color for recital dependent upon the costume.) Hair needs to be pulled back off of face.
Ballet
Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced
- Description: Classes include barrework, center floor and progress to center and across the floor combinations. Correct Ballet terminology is stressed as is proper alignment, classical technique, and musicality.
- Dress Code: All ballet levels: Black leotard, pink tights, ballet skirt any color optional, Bloch pink elastosplit ballet shoes, hair in a bun.
Pre-Pointe/Pointe
- Description: Pointe dancing is an extension of more advanced ballet training where the dancer must possess overall strength and skill.
- Dress Code: Black leotard, pink tights, and pointe shoes approved by teacher.
- NOTE: Pointe students must take Intermediate or Advanced Ballet class in addition, per teacher recommendation.
Company Technique and Conditioning
- Description: This company technique and conditioning class is reserved for company students and a requirement for them to take. This class will focus on improving the technical skills and physical conditioning of dancers. Beginning with dynamic stretching and light cardio exercises this class will flow to cover technique drills, strength training, core and endurance training, and flexibility. This class will also emphasize shaping students to be well rounded dancers. It will cover elements of composition, spatial awareness, improve timing, performance and dance etiquette. Dancers will set goals at the beginning of the season and use this class to focus and accomplish them.
- Dress Code: Black leotard, black leggings, or black fitted shorts and skin toned tights. Shoes are not required, but turners are recommended. Dancers will be instructed to wear a certain color based on class curriculum and will be noted in advance.
Leap & Turn
- Description: In this class, students will focus on conditioning and strengthening exercises that will propel them in their movement, strength, endurance, and flexibility. This class will focus on introducing new movement to dancers, they will learn a variety of new jumps and turns while focusing on their technique and execution. Dancers are strongly encouraged to take a jazz class in addition to this class as well as have training in jazz for 2+ years before enrolling.
- Dress Code: Leotard of any color with dance shorts/leggings/pants. Hair needs to be securely pulled up the face and dancers should wear jazz shoes or turners.
Modern
- Description: Modern will be a combination of the Lester Horton Technique and the Martha Graham Technique. The two techniques are dynamic, dramatic, and help develop both strength and flexibility. The primary focus of Horton is to take a whole body, anatomical approach to dance that includes flexibility, strength, coordination and body and spatial awareness. Graham technique focuses on contraction and release and uses different parts of the body in opposition to one another to create spirals. It also incorporates formal exaggerations of "natural" movements. Ultimately, both specializations will place emphasis on developing musicality and performance qualities.
- Dress-code: Black leo & black leggings, with barefeet. Hair should be pulled off the face.
Contemporary
- Description: Contemporary dance is a more modern dance form that evolved from ballet, modern dance, and postmodern dance. Emerging as a response to the rigid structures of ballet and modern dance, Contemporary dance incorporates a wide range of movement styles, utilizing dancer’s versatility, and improvisational expression. Movements can range from abstract to simple, with an emphasis on use of space, ground, and body weight. Music choice, which can include silence, is up to the discretion of the choreographer and dancers. This class will include experimental expression of movement through shapes, space, and energy. Dancers will utilize their technique to push the boundaries of what fits in the box of understanding what dance is. This class is reserved for advanced students and lyrical is a prerequisite.
- Dress Code: Contemporary dancers are permitted to wear leotards, shorts, leggings, or capris pants. A biketard, unitard, or two-piece dance outfit is also acceptable for contemporary class. All pants should be form fitting (not baggy) and not touch the floor. Shoes could be turners or bare feet. Socks may be permitted depending on choreography or movement need. Tights are not required.
Lyrical
Intermediate
- Description: Emerging from jazz and ballet, lyrical dance blends the technical aspects of ballet with the fluidity and expressiveness of jazz. Dancers will focus on conveying emotions and telling a story through movements that are flowing and connected. Lyrical dances are typically performed to songs with lyrics, allowing for interpretation and expression of emotions and storytelling. Throughout the year, dancers will work on growing their vocabulary of expression, ability of rhythmic timing, elongation of movements, and conveying their story. Components of Contemporary will be introduced in this class.
- Dress Code: Lyrical dancers are permitted to wear leotards, shorts, leggings, or capris pants. A biketard, unitard, or two-piece dance outfit is also acceptable for lyrical class. All pants should be form fitting (not baggy) and not touch the floor. Ballet skirts are also welcome. Shoes could be turners, ballet slippers or bare feet. No socks allowed.
Hip Hop
Beginner - Ages 5 and up
Intermediate/Advanced - Teens
- Description: Get ready to groove and move in our hip hop dance class(es). Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced dancer, class will offer a fun and dynamic environment to explore the vibrant world of hip hop. Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing; sweatpants, joggers, or leggings paired with a t-shirt or tank top are recommended. Clean soled sneakers with good support are a must. Please, no jewelry, and hair is to be worn pulled back out of the dancers face. Each session will begin with a warm-up, we will then dive into learning fundamental hip hop moves, techniques, and routines. As you progress, you’ll tackle more complex choreography, focusing on rhythm, style, and performance.
- Dress Code: Black jazz oxfords or black hip hop shoes, jazz pants, dance shorts, leotards and/or bike shorts. Please no jeans, street clothes or street sneakers.
Hip-Hop Contemporary Fusion
- Description: Hip Hop / Contemporary Fusion is an open dance style that combines aspects and concepts of hip-hop dance as well as contemporary dance. This synergetic combination of dance styles focuses on the musicality, syncopation, and foundations of hip-hop, and fuses these aspects with the story-telling, emotions, and versatility of contemporary dance. Since Contemporary Dance includes aspects of lyrical, jazz, ballet, and/or modern, combining contemporary with hip-hop gives dancers an opportunity to explore body awareness, movement exploration, rhythm, fluidity, isolations, and many other aspects that fall under the umbrella of hip-hop and contemporary dance. The fusion of these popular and dynamic dance styles provides the opportunity for compelling story-telling through choreography as well as highly beneficial training for dancers as a whole.
- Dress code: Leotard and leggings with dance sneakers or barefoot.
Adult Tap
- Description: In this class your toes will be tapping and your spirits will be lifted as you have fun tapping through center floor combinations, across the floor moves, and choreography. No experience is necessary, just come and have fun!
- Dress Code: Comfortable clothes, tap shoes a must, any color.
