Master Classes

Shelly Hutchinson Master Class with Miss Shelly Hutchinson.

Shelly Hutchinson is a choreographer, instructor, dancer, actress and producer in New York City. She has been a Contemporary and Musical Theater choreographer for "So You Think You Can Dance" Ukraine for the last four seasons, also on the creative teams and performed in operas such as Candide, Samson and Delilah, and Aida as associate choreographer and assistant director. Associate choreographer for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Vince Cameo ad for NYC Fashion Week. Choreographer for adapted for stage version of Disney's High School Musical. Television appearances include MTV, CBS Morning Show, ABC, Saturday Night Live, Law & Order, Lipstick Jungle, Ugly Betty, Kings, HBO Miniseries "Mildred Pierce", The Today Show, David Letterman, and The Learning Channel. Performing credits include Radio City Music Hall, Warner Brothers Films, Disney, back up dancer for Craig Mack, Wyclef Jean and in Lou Bega's "Mambo #5. Off-Broadway and Regional Theatre, Broadway Bares, National and European Tours including "Fame, the Musical", Bye Bye Birdie, Irene, and West Side Story, assistant choreographer for "Falco", a multi- media show in Vienna, Austria based on the late 80's pop star. Recently Nominated for "Outstanding Choreography" for "Occasion For Sin" as part of Planet Connections Theater Festivity. Her work has been seen at City Center, Symphony Space, Carnival NYC, Merce Cunningham, Manhattan Movement Arts Center, and Salvatore Capezio Theater. With over 20 years of deep and diverse teaching experience with all levels and ages, she has taught at various studios in the US, Germany, Italy, Austria, Prague, Argentina, Japan, Costa Rica, Cirque Du Soleil, Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway, Joffrey Ballet School, The Pulse, and Peridance in New York. Shelly continues to travel around the country for master classes, choreography, and private instruction. She is on faculty at Broadway Dance Center and Peridance Capezio Center, and currently producing a series of benefit concerts entitled "New York Moves" to benefit various national charities. Also the Director of UNCOVERED CHOREOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS, a series of intensives to help young dancers find their identities as choreographers.

In this hour and 45 minute mixed level class, Shelly will take you through the fundamentals of contemporary where dancers will be able to work on flexibility, strength, range, and ease of movement. While focusing on the dynamics of movement and storytelling abilities, dancers will be challenged to emotionally commit to the choreography in a passionate environment. Dancers will be encouraged to push beyond their comfort zone and explore a new level of dance, physically and emotionally.

Lauren Russo was born in Bridgeport, CT, she began her training at the Lakewood Trumbull YMCA under the direction of Dona Wassell. She is currently on track to graduate from Alvin Ailey/Fordham University in 2018 with a dual major BFA in Dance/Economics. Lauren has worked with numerous choreographers such as Darrell Grand Moultrie, Matthew Rushing, Ronni Favors, Jon Ole Olstad, and more. Lauren has performed at major events such as The Hudson Yards Heatherwick Unveiling Event hosted by Mayor deBlasio and Anderson Cooper, as well as alongside The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre (AAADT) in their last two New York City Center Seasons. Studying abroad at The London Contemporary Dance School, (LCDS) in Spring 2017, Lauren learned works such as Hofesh Shechtor's "Political Mother", Ohad Naharin's "PassoMezzo" and Crystal Pite's "Betroffenheit". Lauren is a 2017 Cunningham Trust Fellow and currently travels the tristate area performing with the Dancers From the Ailey School (DFAS) under the artistic direction of Freddie Moore.
